Mayor Hammons
  Mayor Jack Hammons

"Welcome to Web page Winnsboro, a great little city known for its hospitality, clean beauty and patriotic accomplishments.  The titles and awards listed below say it all--our people are our greatest asset and really make us stand out.

Our volunteers are crucial to the community.  Thanks to the tireless efforts of the City Council, garden clubs, theatre, civic groups, individuals and businesses, many improvements and accomplishments have been brought to our city.   Winnsboro is the "breath of fresh air" as you travel four-lane Louisiana Highway 15.  Our citizens are committed to quality living through the preservation and enhancement of our community's unique natural and human resources.

I have great faith that our community will meet the challenges of the future, while maintaining ties to our past and our own unique identity.  I look forward to continuing to work closely with all our citizens and making sure that Winnsboro remains a special place where people care.

The "Winnsboro Hub" is a great place to live, build, and grow a business.  We invite you to come visit our city and let us show you our industrial park and sites available for business and industry."

                                                     Jack Hammons, Mayor

"A Community with Pride"

Imagine a small country city with a clean atmosphere, low crime rate and friendly smiles from passing neighbors.  Winnsboro, the Parish Seat of Franklin Parish fits this description perfectly.

There is still a place left in America where giving, caring and sharing are not forgotten.  A safe and friendly city may be a dying breed in today's day and time but it is not yet completely extinct-Winnsboro is proof of that.

The pride of the citizens of Winnsboro is evident in many ways as visitors enter the city.  Louisiana's largest U.S.flag, measuring 40 feet by 75 feet, stands majestically on Patriot Square on Highway 15 in the center of city.  In October, 1997, thanks to the efforts of Senator Noble Ellington, highway 15 from Archibald to Vidalia was renamed Veterans Memorial Highway.

Community Pride
The "Salute to Old Glory" project to acquire the flag and pole was coordinated by Oakley Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, in cooperation with the city of Winnsboro. This project complimented the interment flag and Veterans Memorial projects of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post.

        "Beautification Project"

Many groups and individuals worked together to make a dramatic change in the appearance of Winnsboro.  An ongoing Beautification Project was begun in 1986 by the Chamber of Commerce and the local Garden Gate Study Club.  Their quest was to give the city of Winnsboro a new image, and that they did!

A lovely gazebo, park benches and a three mile stretch of flowerbeds line the Winnsboro fourlane main street, Louisiana 15.

"Cleanest City"

The city of Winnsboro enters the Cleanest City Contest every year.   It has won many district awards(1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992) and state awards in 1989 and 1993.  The citizens of Winnsboro win regardless of whether a trophy is presented.   With this ongoing project, Winnsboro will continue to be a winner.
