READY CITY
In 1986 the city of Winnsboro was declared a ''DESIGNATED READY
CITY". This program is jointly sponsored by the
Department of Commerce, Office of Commerce and Industry, and Louisiana Power & Light
Co. Through a period of time, a self-evaluation of the city and its' various
functions has been carried out. A sales team has been trained, and a
"mock" prospect visit has been conducted. The city was successful in
meeting all standards and declared a "READY CITY".

SUMMARIES OF INDUSTRIES
Agriculture--Franklin's long growing seasons and well drained farmland
make it possible to produce an abundant variety of crops. Farming communities have
thrived locally since the early days of the parish and will continue to provide an
economic base for potential expansion into related industries, such as food processing and
packaging.
Apparel--Several large scale apparel manufacturers operate in the region,
including LaSevilla Fashion in Franklin Parish, which indicates the viability of this
industry locally.
Catfish Industry--Forty-two catfish farmers occupy 7,111acres producing
44,443,750 pounds of catfish annually. Franklin Parish has two processing plants,
Southern Farms and Haring Pride, one feed mill, three commercial seining companies and one
aeration manufacturer which together employs approximately 450 persons.
Food Products--The local economy of Franklin Parish consists of several
companies in the food products industries. A number of fish processing facilities
operate locally. Also, Winnsboro Beverage Packaging, a soft drink bottling plant, is
one of the larger private employers in the parish. |
